August Sketch Group at Idlewild Presbyterian Church

Next sketch group
Saturday, August 4 (not tomorrow!)

Idlewild Presbyterian Church, 1750 Union Avenue (between Evergreen and Auburndale)

9:30 AM (Starting a little early to be out by noon)

We'll be in the old building (on the right with the arched doorways, not the obviously 60's looking one), and the parking lot is just west of the church along Union. We will meet in the entrance hallway.

The idea is to sketch indoors since it will probably be very hot, but you can sketch the outside of the church, too!

Please comment here or on our Facebook page if you plan to attend.

Hope to see you there!

Monorail and Museum

These are my sketches from Saturday's sketch group at Mud Island's Mississippi River Museum. It was a fun place to sketch, inside and out. The architecture is interesting, like a perfectly preserved slice of 1982, and there are great views all around. The museum is packed with things to sketch.

Thanks so much to the museum for giving us a group discount! Made the whole day even better and we will definitely be back!

Mississippi River Museum at Mud Island River Park

We had a great time sketching at the Mississippi River Museum today. It was a perfect indoor sketching venue on such a hot day. We will definitely be back!

We had an extra meeting for Memphis Urban Sketchers yesterday to draw the Outdoors, Inc. Canoe and Kayak Race yesterday. The race is a Memphis tradition, in its 31st year and some 200 boats strong.

I sketched a tent at the park while we were waiting for the racers to get in sight, and then did a much quicker study of the boats paddling up the harbor towards the finish line and an even quicker sketch of the finish line itself, with the orange buoys.
Finally I sketched some folks relaxing after the race. I loved the colorful quilt they had laid out.

Sketches by the rest of our group:
