On Wednesday, May 16, we are gathering for a “drink and
draw” – or a “snack and sketch” for those who don’t drink – at the Babalu in
East Memphis, 6450 Poplar Avenue. It’s sort of a sketching happy hour, and
should be a good opportunity for people who can’t make weekend gatherings.
The Memphis Urban Sketchers has participated in a variety of
outings lately.
We commemorated the 1968 Sanitation Workers Strike with a
sketch walk from the National Civil Rights Museum to the Clayborn Temple, where
the sanitation workers began their march every day starting in February 1968, to City Hall. It
was a beautiful day for walking and sketching these sites
that have seen so much history.

We’ve also had recent outings at Shelby Farms, the Dixon,
and a final goodbye to the Cleveland Street Flea Market, where we enjoyed so many
sketch outings over the years.
