Sketches from the Big River Crossing

Saturday, March 4, we sketched at the Big River Crossing, which is an amazing amenity here in Memphis - it's a pedestrian bridge spanning the Mississippi River, with views back to the downtown skyline and into Arkansas. And it is connected to an existing train bridge, which is also very sketchable. Can't wait to go back!

August Sketch Group at the Peabody Hotel

Join us for our annual air-conditioned trek to the Peabody Hotel, Saturday, August 6 at 10:00 AM. We'll meet in the lobby, have some mimosas, sketch some ducks. See you there!

Sketches from Earnestine & Hazel's

We went to the world-famous bar Earnestine & Hazel's for our July sketch group, sort of by accident. The plan had been to go to a restaurant next door, but it wasn't open and didn't seem likely to open any time soon. But that's okay, and sort of typical around here, so we went to Earnestine & Hazel's, which was a great option! It's an interesting place with good burgers and an even better juke box. March Sketch Group

Here is my one little sketch from our outing at the beautiful Memphis Theological Seminary in March, and everyone else's sketches of the grounds and the interior.

A Couple of April Sketch Groups

In April and October we like to take advantage of the good weather and sketch every weekend. These sketches are from two weekends in April.

We went to the Cooper Young Farmers Market and then to Overton Park one Saturday. These are my sketches from the day.

On another Saturday we went to Crosstown to sketch everything, but it was unseasonably cold so we mostly sketched from inside the Cleveland Street Flea Market.

South Main Sketch Crawl

Here are my two sketches from our sketch crawl on South Main this past Saturday, and some group shots.

We sketched at the plaza of the National Civil Rights Museum, then walked over to the intersection of South Main and GE Patterson. After that we went to the Farmers Market, but we were all pretty exhausted by then so we looked at each other's sketches.

June Sketch Group - South Main Sketch Crawl

Next sketch group Saturday, June 4, 10:00 AM

We're going to do a real sketch crawl this month! Meet on South Main at the National Civil Rights Museum plaza at 10:00 AM, where we'll sketch for about 45 minutes. Then we'll move to the Main & GE Patterson intersection to sketch the iconic Arcade Restaurant, train station, and Earnestine and Hazel's. Then to the Farmers Market to sketch more before sharing our work.
